Lahser’s Neal Krentz: May 21-26 Patch Athlete of the Week

Knights supporters help the Bloomfield Hills pitcher capture the crown.

Lahser’s Neal Krentz won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for May 21-26, making it two winners in a row for the Knights and three weeks in a row that the title has gone to an athlete from Bloomfield Hills Schools.

Krentz picked up 425 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 64 percent of the 825 total votes cast.

Going into the playoffs, Krentz was one of the hottest pitchers in the area.

In three appearances on the mound, he went 15 innings, struck out 17 batters and allowed just three walks while accumulating an ERA of only 0.40. He did it against some strong competition, too, as all three teams had 20 or more wins. At the plate, he reached base with hits in all three games.

Other athletes in last week's poll:

Taylor Morrissey – Berkley High School (baseball): Morrissey was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in a win over Birmingham Groves. Against Lathrup, he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs.

Lisa White  – Seaholm High School (soccer): Lisa White did it all season in net for the Seaholm varsity girls soccer team. In the Maples' regular season finale, she had 10 saves in a 4-0 win over Holly to pick up her sixth shutout of the season.

Nicole Pollina – Troy High School (lacrosse): Nicole Pollina helped Troy advance to the regional semifinals last week. In a win over North Harrison, she had four goals and an assist.

J.D. Hess – Seaholm High School (lacrosse): J.D. Hess was a key performer for the Birmingham United boys lacrosse team in the first round of the playoffs  Thursday to help his team advance with a 16-7 win over Saline. The senior had four goals and two assists.
