Local Author Sponsors Short Story Writing Contest

Christopher Profeta's writing contest officially starts on Monday.

A local author is inviting writers to participate in a short story contest focused on the impacts of unemployment.

Christopher Profeta, of Clawson, is sponsoring the writing contest to mark the release of his new novel Life In Pieces. Profeta said his novel focuses on the impacts of unemployment telling the story about a stay-at-home dad who finds himself running for Congress.

Profeta, who teaches creative writing at Macomb Community College and Davenport University, said the short story submissions should focus on unemployment and economic hardship from the author's point of view.

"It seemed like a pretty popular and serious issue right now," Profeta said. "As a writer and teacher I figure there's not much I can do to solve those issues. But authors can help people understand that problem."

The contest will officially start on Monday with all submissions due by Feb. 3. The stories should not exceed 7,500 words.
