Weekend Planner: Beer, Blues and Art at Winter Festivals

A roundup of weekend happenings in Clawson and surrounding areas.

 

There is plenty to do in and around Clawson this weekend. Here are some highlights:

1. Berkley Winterfest

Berkley Parks and Recreation hosts its annual Winterfest celebration at the Berkley Community Center this Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. This family friendly free event includes a bunch of activities lasting all day and into the night. Highlights include a chili cook-off, a bonfire complete with s'mores and tournaments in kickball, broomball and turkey bowling.

2. Trojans Basketball

The Trojans boys' basketball team plays Lakeview High School at Clawson High School at 7p.m. Friday. Admission is $5.

3. Oakland Mall Winter Indoor Art Fair

Oakland Mall in Troy hosts an indoor art fair this Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.  Artists will have pieces available for sale, but the show is free to browse.

4. Winter Beer Fest III

The Royal Oak Music Theatre will serve 25 beer samples on Saturday starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and you must be at least 21 to enter.

5. Ferndale Blues Festival

Bars and restaurants around Ferndale will host blues and other types of bands for nine days, starting Friday, during its annual Ferndale Blues & Music Festival. The Emory has a specialty blues brunch Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with a choice between "blues berry" pancakes and southern fried chicken and biscuts and gravy.  Breakfast menu items range from $5.95 to $8.95
