Weekend Planner: Fire Department Open House, Pageant, Magic and More

A roundup of weekend events in Clawson and surrounding areas.

 

1. Fire Department Open House

The Clawson Fire Department will host an open house from noon-3 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 16. The free event offers up displays, handouts, a smoke trailer and demonstrations.

2. Miss Princess Pageant

Clawson’s Miss Princess Pageant will be held at Clawson High School at 7 p.m. Saturday. This year's contestants, ages 5-7, are posted on the web page. Andrea Isom of Detroit's Fox 2 News will be this years Celebrity Judge. Tickets are $10.

3. Children's Magic Class: Coins II

The Wunderground Magic Shop is offering a Coins II Magic Class for children ages 7 -13 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays. The class is taught by an accomplished magician. Purchase six classes for $100 and use them any time within six months.

4. Oktoberfest/86th Anniversary Event

Celebrate Oktoberfest at 6 p.m. Saturday at Royal Oak Farmers Market. Dance to The Good Times Orchestra, enjoy local beers, a silent auction, dancing by the Sarisan Slovak Folk Ensemble and come to see the largest pumpkin grown in Michigan. Proceeds will benefit the market and the Royal Oak Historical Society. Cost is $5. Call 248-246-3276 for more information.

5. Messy Church and Blood Drive

Make a mess from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Clawson United Methodist Church. Messy Church is a once-a-month program for parents or grandparents together with children. There will be crafts, a hands-on child-friendly worship and story time and dinner. The church will also be hosting a blood drive Sunday.To make an appointment to give blood, go to redcrossblood.org and enter "ClawsonUMC" as the sponsor code, or call the Clawson UMC office: 248-435-9090. Walk-ins are accepted, but will be fit in around those who have made appointments.
