Weekend Planner: Snowcoming, Spirit Crawl, Valentine's Jam and More
Here's a roundup of weekend happenings in Clawson and surrounding areas.
1. Snowcoming Game
Cheer on the Clawson varsity boys basketball team at its Snowcoming game Friday against Center Line High School at home. The game starts at 7 p.m., and at halftime, the Snowcoming Court winners will be crowned. Admission costs $4 for students and $5 for adults. There will be a Snowcoming Dance for students from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at Clawson High School. The theme is "Chinese New Year." Guest forms are in the school's main office.
2. Clawson Spirit Crawl
The Clawson Spirit Crawl will benefit the Jimmy Marvin Memorial Fund and Senior All Night Party Fund. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at Trim Barber House. There you will pick up your Spirit Crawl T-shirt and proceed to the following establishments: Black Lotus, The Drive-In, Royal Kubo, Renshaw’s and Clawson Fraternal Order of Eagles. Participants will spend about one hour at each destination. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $10 Saturday. For more information, contact Linda Morrill at 248-761-5550.
3. Free Play Time
If you're looking for something to do with the children this weekend, Nature's Playhouse, inside the Hunter Community Center, hosts free drop-in play time for children on the second Saturday of each month. The play sessions are from 9:30-11 a.m.
4. Wild Winter Weekend
The Detroit Zoo will host Wild Winter Weekend: African Adventure from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Celebrate Wild Winter African Adventure in honor of Black History Month. Take an African drum lesson or learn about African animals through storytelling with David Gakure, Kenyan naturalist and Detroit Zoological Society education specialist. Other activities include live entertainment, arts and crafts, games and educational experiences. Zoo admission costs $15 for ages 15 and older and $8 for ages 2-14.
5. Valentine's Jam
There will be a spaghetti dinner and Valentine's Jam at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Saturday. Dinner is from 5-7 p.m., and live music is from 7-11 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America. Admission costs $15.
