Wind Chill Advisory in Effect for Oakland County Today

The wind chill is expected to hit as low as 25 degrees below zero.

Don't even think about going outside today without a hat and gloves.

A wind chill advisory is in effect for Oakland County and much of southeast Michigan, the National Weather Service announced Monday evening.

The blistering cold winter weather has already caused the cancelation of a school in Lake Orion.

The NWS reports that this "shot of arctic air ... will be the coldest of the season."

Temperatures will drop to the single digits and as low as -5 heading into Tuesday morning. The wind chill is expected to hit as low as 25 degrees below zero.

The wind chill advisory remains in effect until Tuesday afternoon in several counties besides Oakland, including: Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb, Livingston and Genesee.

The NWS warns that prolonged skin exposure to the cold can result in frostbite and hypotermia. It's recommended that exposure to the elements is limited.
