Clawson, “The Little City with A Big Heart” beats wild with Arts in 2013!
The City of Clawson’s newly formed Cultural Foundation is in the midst of putting together a unique event coming this spring along with many more! Three ensembles will compete in three age categories at Clawson City Park on May 19th. “The Melodies Clash in Clawson” event is just one of many events planned this year by the Clawson Cultural Foundation, who kicked off the year with a music concert fundraising event performed by founding member Matthew Ball (aka The Boogie Woogie Kid) with great success! Next is a Mystery Dinner fundraiser, taking place at the American Legion on April 20th in Clawson. The foundation has teamed up with local actors to make this a night not to be missed! Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at Hunter Community Center on Fisher Court call (248) 589-0334. In September, the event that pulled the foundation together, “The Second Annual Clawson Arts and Authors Festival” will take place on September 8th in City Park and will run in conjunction with the Farmers Market. The event will include crafts, visual arts, children’s create and take crafts, readings taking place throughout the day, along with performances from local musicians, and of course, lots of food! Submissions for the event start in March.
Founding member Lisa Ball is excited about working with Mayor Penny Leubs to pull more events like these together in Clawson. “These types of events are what make communities desirable to live, work, and raise a family in. As a new mother, I’ve found that it is important for me to become active in my community because, community, along with family, and school are major influences in our children’s lives, and as a parent I am responsible for aiding all of those influences impacting him to nurture a positive, safe, and educational environment.” Lisa, is also working on putting together a parent leader playgroup for ages 0-4 at the Hunter Community Center in the Nature's Playhouse Room.
The Clawson Cultural Foundation meets at The Hunter Community Center 509 Fisher Court on the second Monday of the month at 7:30pm. Please feel free to come in share your ideas, connect with your neighbors, and city officials!
