Third Annual Mom2Mom Sale for BADALA
Our Third Annual Mom2Mom Sale for BADALA (formerly Save Africa Project) is happening Saturday, December 8th. This event not only provides a great place to pick up gently used items for your children this holiday season, and tremendous savings, but also is a great way to help other moms in the local area to make money. And, it helps moms and children across the world through self-sustaining programs to offer alternatives to people in poverty through education and a microfinance effort.
According to www.BADALA.org, "In Africa, when a woman is divorced or widowed and left with children, she has few options. Her avenues for income are often insufficient and socially unacceptable. Many women are forced to re-marry quickly, steal, prostitute themselves, or become beggars. Our microeconomic program seeks to provide an alternative to these methods of income to single mothers in impoverished communities by training and hiring them to make fair trade items.
Our central location is in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, and we have most recently expanded the program to a location in genocide-ravaged Rwanda. With the income the women earn by producing fair trade items, these single mothers are able to pay their living expenses and send their children to school. Soon these women of incredible strength will be starting saving and loan groups within their communities so they can build their own businesses and graduate from BADALA’s microfinance program."
Information and products produced by BADALA will be available, and donations are always accepted.
Admission is $1 at the door.
