Philanthropic Clawson Youth Recognized by Local Leaders

From organizing a 5K race to assisting with a Garden Club, from helping young volleyball players to leading the safety patrol, these Clawson youth are a big help for the community.

It might be tough to imagine where Clawson might be without the work of youth who were recognized by Clawson Youth Assistance at the Hunter Community Center.

The ceremony on Wednesday brought together local leaders and families eager to give thanks to these kids for their work. Here's a look at the program:

  • Abbey Parker and Marie Smith each were nominated for producing Public Service Announcements promoting Clawson Middle School.
  • Allison Steinbach, Erin Shrum, Emma Marshall, Autumn Rakoczy, Katelyn Hodge, Margaret Hauser, Rachel Breckels, Shelby Cummings, and Taylor Wright each were nominated for helping out with the Junior Trojan Volleyball Camp.
  • Brianna Gordon was nominated for being a fifth grade assistance for Mud Puppies Garden Club, attending the meetings and helping with managing the club. She is also an excellent safety.
  • Darnell Griffin was nominated for being an excellent safety patrol member assigned as a kindergarten assistant in the morning and afternoon. He is a great role model for the kindergarteners.
  • David Mature was nominated for helping out his grandparents and being part of the track and basketball team.
  • Drew Comer was nominated for being very patient and nurturing while working with students in the ASD program. He does an amazing job!
  • Elizabeth Kurkowski was nominated for organizing a 5K TNT race to fundraise for autism and volunteering at the farmer's market.
  • Garrett Sarvello was nominated for helping out during lunch being a peer tutor.
  • Jamie Scribner was nominated for volunteering in many community events. She is a member of the Turbo Trojans Robotics team. She promotes the Robotics program and Lego League. She has maintained her grades and is an excellent role model.
  • Jim Richards was nominated for attending meetings with his mother and volunteering for activities.
  • Joi Takenouchi was nominated for helping out at lunch being a peer tutor, and she was also nominated for producing Public Service Announcements promoting Clawson Middle School.
  • Samantha Brown was nominated for being a member of the L.I.N.K. program, working with students with autism. She is a true ambassador for friendship and fairness.
  • Trent Graves was nominated for displaying strong leadership skills. He is the president of the Junior Optimists, a student council representative and a member of the safety patrol. He also works with the autistic students through the L.I.N.K. program.
  • Trey Bennington was nominated for participating in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, volunteering as a hall monitor, and for writing an essay and presenting it on cable television.
