Taking the family to a movie these days can break the bank. Between tickets, popcorn and drinks, it can cost a chunk of change.

Now you have a chance to take the kids to see a movie on the big screen without shelling out too much dough. Regal Entertainment Group, whose 350 theaters across the country include the UA Commerce Township Stadium 14 Theater in Walled Lake, is hosting Summer Movie Express.

Tickets to the movies are $1. Movies are screened Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Movies to be screened include: Despicable Me 2, Lego Movie, Turbo, Rio 2 and more.

Tickets for Summer Movie Express films must be purchased at the theater. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.

"Many families make this a summer tradition and look forward to our announcement of the long list of fun movies coming their way. And for Regal, this helps us instill that love of moviegoing in another generation," said Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer at Regal Entertainment Group. "The titles this year appeal to a diverse group of tastes, and we know there is a little bit of something for everyone."

I guess when I read "In-Theater Movie for a buck", I expected a movie that was currently showing in theaters, not one that was out on DVD/Blu-ray and available to rent via Redbox for $1.20 a day (or free with a readily available code). Popcorn, drinks, etc. all push the "In-Theater" price up so much that if I wanted anything to eat or drink, I'd rather just pick up the video (or stream it) and really save $$$ over the "In-Theater" price for the entire outing!
