Isle Royale Honeymoon Canoe Trip Wins Your Patch of Michigan Photo Contest

Out of nearly 2,000 photos submitted, the grand prize choice wins a Mackinac Island adventure.

Sunsets, family reunions, beaches, city skylines, tubing on lakes, Tiger games, wildlife, Mackinac Island and so much more. Those are among the nearly 2,000 images readers shared over eight weeks of the .

So it was tough to choose just one grand prize winner from the eight weekly winners, but we did: Beth Potts' snapshot of her new husband, Chris, during their in Michigan's Upper Peninsula last summer.

"We packed everything into the canoe and he navigated our way along the south shore to Moskey Basin, where we camped overlooking the bay," said Potts, of Grosse Pointe Woods.

"We've both traveled internationally and around the U.S., but you don't have to leave Michigan to have it as good as it gets. We plan to adventure a new Michigan destination for each anniversary ... There's always more to see."

In choosing the grand prize winner, judges commented:

"It's a cool moment, a well-composed shot and a very uniquely Michigan moment" and "It is such a beautiful shot and showcases Michigan's lakes and natural beauty" and "I thought it was great content and a quality photo all at the same time, with a great story behind it." 

Beth and Chris Potts can continue their Michigan adventures with the grand prize: a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island (to be used before Oct. 31, 2012, and blackout dates and other restrictions may apply). The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $500.

Every week through Sept. 17 we had a new photo gallery and a new winner chosen by a panel of Michigan Patch editors. Each weekly winner got a prize, such as a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
