Make it a Movie Night: Blair Memorial Library Offers Holiday Classics

Cozy up by the fire with one of these holiday flicks.

It sure is cold outside and though we may not have seen much snow yet this winter, it can still feel like the holidays when you cozy up with a spirited film. Check out Blair Memorial Library and peruse their wide selection of movies which includes plenty of winter classics (all of which are clearly labeled with a candy cane sticker).

Here are some of Patch's picks.

1. Miracle on 34th Street  (1947)

When a nice old man is institutionalized after claiming to be Santa Claus, a young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing.

2. The Christmas Story  (1983)

Ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940s.

3. Scrooged (1988)

A selfish TV executive receives a visit from three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve.

4. A Charlie Brown Christmas  (1965)

Repelled by the commercialism he sees around him, Charlie Brown tries to find the true meaning of Christmas.

5. The Holiday (2006)

Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other's countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.

6. It's a Wonderful Life  (1946)

An angel helps a compassionate, but despairingly frustrated, businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.

7. Four Christmases (2008)

A couple struggles to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day.

8. The Year Without a Santa Claus (1974)

Mrs. Claus tells the story of a time when Santa had a bad cold and decided to take a vacation from Christmas.

9. Elf  (2003)

After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community because of his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas  (1993)

Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmas Town, but doesn't quite understand the concept.
