Stingrays, sharks, corral and even clown fish— you name it and chances are it can be found at one of two aquariums in town.

Though the Discovery Channel's Shark Week ended earlier this month, the week of shows is so wildly popular that it inspired me to take a trip to the underwater world a little bit closer to home.

Located just down West 14 Mile Road from one another, these two shops are similar, yet very unique in their own, special ways.

The Atlantis Fish Shoppe carries a large variety of both saltwater fish (shrimp, crabs, starfish) and freshwater fish (guppies, Tetra, Swordtails) as well as California, Diamond and Blue Dot Stingrays and even baby sharks. One of the shop’s most distinguishable features is the large array of live corral available in all sizes, shapes and colors that are shipped in every week and always in stock.

Amazon Stingrays, on the other hand, focuses more on saltwater livestock such as various types of fish, eels, clams and large sharks. However, stingrays are available in both freshwater (Motoros) and saltwater (various species) and are bred right inside the store.

The shops have very comparable prices and also house a large collection of aquarium and pond supplies.

Amazon Stingrays and Atlantis Fish Shoppe both agree that new customers are always welcome, no matter what their knowledge or expertise of fish is.

So, if you’re looking to bring home a new friend, curious about a unique species or just think it’s time to upgrade that old fish tank, either of these aquariums might meet your needs.
