Customers Flocking to Restaurant with Iconic 8-Foot Chicken on its Roof

"Faym-Us" for its chicken, ribs and seafood, the popular takeout restaurant is also known for homemade coleslaw and barbecue sauce made from old family recipes.

If you listen closely, you might hear a pleased “cluck-cluck” coming from inside the building at 331 Main St. with the iconic 8-foot chicken on its roof.

Faym-Us Chicken and Seafood, an iconic carry-out chicken restaurant that has been pleasing customers for more than half a century, is open again and customers are thrilled, a handful of reviews on Yelp reveal.

One customer said that she was so “absolutely enthralled” by the chicken and ate it standing up at her kitchen counter.

She recently moved to Clawson decided that she needed to give the restaurant a try. Any place that's been there that long and has an 8-foot fiberglass chicken atop its roof must be good,” she wrote.

She was looking for some chicken redemption after a disappointing experience at another chicken joint. “Faym-Us Chicken had it,” she wrote. “I was floored.”

She ordered the four-piece all-white meal, which came with two breasts and two wings. “I ate it all, plus the Faym-Us potatoes,” she wrote. “The chicken was crisp, piping hot, tender and juicy. Absolutely no complaints at all and really flavorful. The potatoes were delicious and buttery. I even managed to dip the dinner roll in the leftover butter in the to-go container …”

A Royal Oak customer who stopped in on opening day also raved.

“This great place has reopened with a new owner and new attitude. I was there on opening day, and the place has been remodeled and scrubbed from floor to ceiling. It was inviting and new, but preserved the character of the old place,” wrote a customer from Royal Oak, who was happy the restaurant has preserved the old family recipe and continues to use fresh – never frozen – chicken.

“I’ll be back, often,” he said.

Another customer drove from Orchard Lake Village to give the latest iteration of the Faym-Us Chicken and Seafood a try.

“ … I love Faym-Us Chicken. I do. There's something so charming about not only the giant chicken, but also the 3-square-feet inside that one has to peruse the menu, order, pay and pick up. It really feels homey being snuggled right up to the guy making my order.

“Seriously though, the chicken is always juicy and has a great flavor. The mashed potatoes and broasted potatoes are both delicious. Even the slaw is pretty good. …”
