Flipside Reports High Traffic on Record Store Day

Downtown Clawson record store was a popular stop Saturday for patrons looking for exclusive music releases.

Business was booming on Saturday for downtown Clawson's . The fifth annual international holiday Record Store Day brought a high volume of shoppers to the business from all over the area.

Record Store Day, founded in 2007, is a day where artists make special edition, exclusive music releases (mainly on vinyl) available to the small, local record shops.

"It was great," Flipside owner Todd Fundaro said. "There were a lot of people here for the first time that have never been here."

Fundaro said he ordered a wide variety of limited edition records for Saturday and rock band White Stripes was a top seller.

More than 250 artists put out exclusive releases for Record Store Day this year, according to a Detroit News report.

Other area record stores had good customer traffic also on Saturday, including UHF in downtown Royal Oak and Street Corner Music in Oak Park, the Detroit News report said.

To celebrate the day, Flipside provided food and live performances from five bands. Fundaro said Flipside also offered discounts on video games and 10 percent off used vinyl records for customers.

"We tripled the amount of money we spent on products," Fundaro said
