Paperback Trade Inn is Home to the Old and New

This hometown favorite lets customers trade in their old reads and shop for new ones all while offering books at a fraction of the cost.

Whether you are heading back to school or just simply hoping to unwind with a good book, may have what you need.

Offering deeply discounted new and used books for readers alike has been the motive behind this Clawson gem for over 30 years.

The store is made up almost entirely of fictional pieces, all sorted by genre then listed alphabetically by author, making it easily accessible.

Unlike a regular retail store, customers also have the option to bring in their previously-owned books for an even larger buy-back savings.

Students in search of classic reads such as Catcher in the Rye, Canterbury Tales and Hamlet, can find them here at every day low prices along with a large variety of chapter and picture books. Additionally, items such as bookmarks and hand-made book covers are also available for the youngsters.

As a “Twi-hard” fan of the popular vampire series, I was delighted to see multiple copies of each book listed side by side, next to another series I truly enjoy, Gossip Girl.

There is no shortage of supply for the books in stock either – from biographies on Madonna and Jackie O, to fitness tips for women, to the latest Mitch Albom tale, Paperback Trade Inn has it all with dozens more arriving every day.

If you’re not sure what you’re looking for or are a fan of a certain author, owner Christi Molitor will offer suggestions and help you pick out exactly what you might like. The store also invites customers to take a look at a distributor catalog of new books that are available to be custom ordered.

Perhaps this personable and friendly service is what keeps faithful clients coming back year after year, along with a stream of new ones walking through the door each day.

As for me, I’ve already generated a new list of books I want to buy from the store, only I'm not sure where to start!

Paperback Trade Inn is located at 145 E. 14 Mile Rd. and is open Monday, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. For more information call 248-307-0226.
