Weekend Planner: Walk Through Clawson, Buy Some Books and Say Happy Birthday to Zoo Habitats

A roundup of weekend events in Clawson and surrounding areas.

1. Clawson Walking Tour

Get a little history and meet the fine folks of Clawson at the same time this weekend during a walking tour that the Clawson Historical Museum is offering starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the . A $2 donation is requested.

2. Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale

The sale will take place all day Saturday at the and Oct. 24-27. Library hours are noon-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The library is closed on Friday and Sunday.

3. Young Miss Clawson Pageant

The Young Miss Clawson pageant for girls ages 8-11 is Saturday at 7 p.m. at . Admission is $10. The emcee for the pageant is Adrianna Hayes, Miss Clawson 2009, and the choreographer is Chrissie Maciejewski, Miss Clawson 1999.

4. Birthday Bash at the Zoo

is hosting a birthday bash to celebrate its 100th year and commemorate the anniversaries of three of the Detroit Zoo’s signature habitats starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The celebration will include polar bear crafts at the Arctic Ring of Life, games at the National Amphibian Conservation Center and tattoos at the Holden Museum of Living Reptiles. Fun facts, keeper talks and animal enrichment activities will take place at all three habitats. Visitors also will be able to test their knowledge of the Detroit Zoo with a scavenger hunt. Admission is $12 for adults 15 to 61, $10 for senior citizens 62 and older, and $8 for children 2 to 14 (children younger than 2 get in free).

5. Berkley Craft Show

Wander throughout the starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and enjoy a variety of booths which have crafts galore from jewelry to wreaths of all sorts. The holiday season is fast approaching, and the Berkley Craft Show is the perfect opportunity to buy that special something for a friend or a family member. There will be fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations to purchase, along with gifts for the family pet, wood crafts, hand knitted novelties such as mittens, hats, baby items and much more. Baked goods, lunch and a Silent Auction will also be offered. Proceeds go to benefit the Berkley Senior Center. Admission is free.
