'Tis the Season to Give... Household donations are a tax credit!

It's the end of the year and a great time to donate household goods and clothing.   Local area charities are making it easier on you to donate.  Salvation Army in Royal Oak allows you to pull up to their back door in the alley and their volunteers will unload your donations from your car!

Purple Heart will come directly to your house and pick up your donations from your home.  Their website allows you to schedule the pickup date and will advise you of the next truck in your area.

Keep a list of the items you donate and their fair market value (FMV). This is defined as the value at the time of the donation. Our office can provide you with an easy guide which provides fair market value for each type of item you donate.  It's perfect to record your items while boxing them up and simple to use.  We have these available for free to our Clawson neighbors!

You must file Form 1040 and itemize your deductions on Schedule A. If your total deduction for all noncash contributions for the year is more than $500, you must also file Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions, with your tax return.

Contact our tax experts if you need assistance with your tax return.  We are here to help you get every dollar you deserve!
