There was a lot going on in Michigan Patches this week, including stories of a Birmingham mom who seeks to keep pesticides out of the parks and a Wyandotte man who explores the paranormal.

Pastor Terry Jones Thwarted in Dearborn, Vows to Return

Terry Jones, the Quran-burning pastor from Florida whose planned appearance in front of a Dearborn mosque on Good Friday was met with was jailed Friday for Jones, who along with associate Wayne Sapps planned a protest at the Islamic Center of America, said he would return next in front of Dearborn City Hall. The weeklong saga brought to show unity, prompted and ended Friday when a jury ruled that a protest on Jones' terms would threaten to breach the peace. 

Birmingham Mom: No Pesticides in Parks

Mom Heather Carmona has a problem with , and she's taking action. "I'm not a crazy hippy or radical activist, but a mad and motivated mom," said Carmona, who is bringing her complaints to city officials.

County Prosecutor to Students: Sexting=Jail

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper  to students and parents at Farmington Harrison High School last week: If you're caught with nude, seminude or explicit photos of someone younger than 18 on your phone or computer, expect to go to jail. Cooper and Assistant Prosecutor Julie McMurtry, who heads the juvenile division, spoke for more than an hour about the permanence and dangers of electronic communication, especially for teens.

Mandy Hess, a senior at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, was to earn a gold status for her photography portfolio in the Scholastic Art & Writing Contest. Hess has been taking photos since she was 12 and plans to study photojournalism in college.

The Golden Arches held a national job fair Tuesday for seasonal and full-time positions. In St. Clair Shores, and continued to stream into the store throughout the day with hopes of obtaining a first job or returning to work

Detroit Archers Offer Outdoors Program for Women

The Detroit Archers of West Bloomfield hopes to  through sports by offering a beginner’s archery course and hunting workshop through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The No. 1 reason women give for not taking part in more outdoor sports is that they don’t have a place to learn, said coordinator Sue Tabor.

Detroit Man Indicted in Eastside Bank Robberies

 in a series of five bank robberies from October through January in Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores. Federal court records show that another man and a woman were involved, along with the indicted man, in three bank robberies Oct. 28.
