Classic Cars to Flood Main Street in Annual Car Show

Hundreds of owners are expected to show off their classic cars Saturday in Clawson's prelude to the Dream Cruise.

Corvettes, Camaros, antique pickups and other classic cars will line Main Street on Saturday for Clawson's annual car show.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Down on Main Street Car Show hosted by the Clawson Lions Club. The event goes from noon-7 p.m. and includes food and music.

Howie Airriess, a car show organizer and Lions Club member, said the event usually attracts 300 to 500 classic cars.

The Down on Main Street Car Show precedes the Woodward Dream Cruise, which takes place Aug. 20.

"It's the perfect timing," Airriess said. "We are kind of like the prelude before the Dream Cruise. This is like the second-biggest event in Clawson."

Many car owners come from out of state each year to participate. They travel from places as far away as Virginia, New York, Maryland and Kentucky for the show, Airriess said. In most cases, those same car owners will attend Dream Cruise the following weekend, he said.

Airriess said he gives out hundreds of trophies to the cars that win in different categories. There will be judges on site to assist him with the awards.

On site registration for cars is $20 and will begin around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Airriess said. All proceeds will benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind — a program for which the Lions Club raises money all year.

Please note that Main Street, south of 14 Mile, will be closed to traffic for this event.
