Da Nang Provides a Taste of Vietnam

This Clawson restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese food to customers five days a week.

Pho, Vermicelli, Nuong… if you are a fan of Vietnamese food, these words probably sound very familiar to you.

But for the rest of us, chances are if you are a picky eater like me, you have probably never tried it.

Well, the question is, what are you waiting for?

With , a convenient location cooking up authentic Vietnamese cuisine, right on the corner of 14 Mile and Main Street in downtown Clawson, there’s no excuse not to stop by.

Serving meat lovers, seafood eaters and vegetarians, there is a little something for everyone on the menu and because Vietnamese food is typically healthier than its counterparts including Chinese and Thai, you can munch without worry.

Whether you’re in the mood for Pho, a soup consisting of large thick rice noodles with your choice of meat or maybe a stir-fry with rice on the side, most of the dishes are very customizable. Patrons can choose their level of spice – mild, medium or hot - for each meal. There is also a meat-free side of the menu with items such as sweet and sour tofu, vegetarian crepes and sautéed Vietnamese vegetables.

There are also a full range of appetizers including my favorite, spring rolls, which consist of shrimp, vermicelli (thinner rice noodles), fresh vegetables and herbs wrapped in rice paper and topped with crushed peanuts, and ready to dip in a house-made spicy sauce- healthy and delicious.

On this particular day that I went to Da Nang, I decided to trust my seafood instincts and try Bun Tom Xao, a plate of sautéed shrimp on a bed of fresh vegetables mixed with vermicelli, and topped with the house sauce. I opted for a medium flavor of spice and it was just right, not too mild and not so hot that I was gasping for water.

Most entrees at Da Nang range between $12-$16.

So, the next time you are wondering what’s for dinner or just looking to venture outside the box, head over to this Clawson staple and you will be glad you did.
