UPDATE: Downed Power Line Repaired

About 500 customers in Clawson and Royal Oak were affected, said DTE, which restored power Saturday night.

A downed power line knocked out power to 500 customers Saturday in Clawson and Royal Oak, according to DTE Energy.

Crews from DTE worked to repair the damage Saturday, and spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said the power was restored shortly after 8:30 p.m.

"We know there's a downed line, and we have crews out there right now," Bodipo-Memba said around 8 p.m. He added that it was unclear whether the line was downed by an accident or wintry weather.

As temperatures fell Saturday, rain turned to sleet and snow. The National Weather Service said an accumulation of up to 4 inches of snow was possible by Sunday morning.

"Roads will continue to become very slippery this evening due to a combination of falling snow and freezing of the water that was already on the roads," read a special weather statement released Saturday by the forecasting agency. "Temperatures have fallen below freezing and will continue to fall into the upper 20s this evening. So, road conditions will only worsen."

Regardless of whether an accident or the sloppy weather caused the downed power line, Bodipo-Memba offered advice to help keep residents safe.

"If residents see a downed wire, they should stay at least 20 feet away and call our 800 number, which is 800-477-4747," he said.
