4. Mom and Kids Apron
Why go: This is a great Mother’s Day present. Three sessions with your mom, learning how to read a pattern, how to sew on a sewing machine, and coming out with an apron.

5. Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition
Why go: Your kids will be inspired to create when you look at the winning painting, sculpture, pottery, drawing and mixed media made by school kids in Detroit Public Schools, grades K-12.
Where: Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit
When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, April 30-June 5
Cost: Free with museum admission, $8 adults, $4 children ages 6-17
