Great Escape: Take Yourself on a Literary Journey

Lose yourself in the pages of the latest bestseller or the book that has been collecting dust on your nightstand for several months.

Is there anything better than curling up with a blanket, a cup of tea and a good book? During these seemingly endless winter months when just the simplest errands require a serious mental pep-talk, even going out for an enjoyable dinner with a significant other or friends becomes a pain when the temps are below zero and wind, snow and ice insist on smacking you in the face.

When the weather has you trapped indoors, sign up your husband for some quality time with the kids or pop a movie in to give you some time and prepare a pleasant corner of your home just for your literary escape.  The couch, a favorite chair, your bed – any place could work as long as it’s somewhat secluded and quiet. Throw in anything that represents comfort to you from pillows, blankets, slippers, yummy treats and drinks, your favorite lap dog or cat and escape into the story of your choice.

While a trip to for used books, or Barnes & Noble can be fun, it’s such a relief to know most bestsellers are now downloadable to tablets (iPad, Kindle, Nook), PCs and MP3 players, so there’s no need to battle a blizzard just to fulfill your "me time" commitment.

Throw all obligations out the window and make sure you’re reading for pleasure and not to fulfill a business or intellectual commitment. No catching up on the Wall Street Journal during your escape time. If sinking yourself into Snooki’s literary debut will bring a smile to your face, read it, enjoy it and feel better about yourself because of it.
