It's Time to Enroll in Summer Camp

A selection of summer camps in or near Clawson and other communities.

With the choice and variety of summer camps available in southeastern Michigan, boredom won't be an option this summer for your kids. A lot of organizations, from the YMCA to your local parks and recreation department offer dozens of choices for camps, with science, reading, sports, music and more among them. Whether you're looking for an all-around experience or a camp more focused on a particular interest, this list features one in your town and several very close by. Feel free to add your own, as well:

Clawson

Location: Clawson
Name: Clawson Parks and Recreation

Royal Oak

Details: The Summer Rocks camp will also include a tour to Nashville and Memphis. Along the way, participants will be able to play in a band, meet industry professionals, record in a studio and shoot a music video. Camp enrollment is by audition only, so practice up!

Details: This day camp offers flexibility, allowing parents to purchase by the week, day or to just drop in as well. The camp balances academic elements with outdoor fun, and there are camps for younger kids (4 and a half years-12) and older kids (13-15 to train as camp counselors).

Bloomfield Township/Bloomfield Hills

Details: Kids must be enrolled in K-5 in Lake Shores Public Schools. Hours run from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Science, art and reading are listed as activities.

Details: Each week has a new theme, with a day for water activities, field trip and a camper’s choice day for kids to choose their own activity.

Details: This program will help kids keep in academic shape, with workbook activities focused on math, literacy and science. Age groups are split between six weeks to 5-year-olds and 6 to 12-year-olds. Note: The Childtime location and program is moving to Grosse Pointe Woods in June. Contact them for more information regarding the move.
