Library Picks: Back to School Edition

Check out these selections from the library shelves focused on the upcoming return to school.

The first day of school is coming up on Tuesday Sept. 6, so this week's library picks focus on school bullying, tips for middle schoolers, crazy tales of silly schooling and more. has plenty of interesting and amusing books for youth. Check out some of these reads.

1. Wayside School is Falling Down (Book) - Author Louis Sachar's sequel in the zany, tongue-in-cheek Wayside School series. Goofy and silly stories paired with Adam McCauley understated illustrations make this fun for kids and parents to read together.

2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Book) - Jeff Kinney's exaggerated novel about the perils and unofficial laws of middle school survival has seen plenty of success considering the movies the series has spawned. Check out the first book to see where all the fun came from.

3. Bullyproof Your Child For Life: Protect Your Child from Teasing, Taunting, and Bullying for Good (Book) - Bullying is the bane of many young students' existence. Joel Haber, an expert on bullying known as the "Bully Coach," offers up ways to protect your children through education and awareness of the bullying psychology.

4. Going to School in Colonial America (Book) - Today's schooling atmosphere is incredibly different from that of generations before. Shelley Swanson Sateren offers a look back in time at that very different world in this book of American history.

A Smart Girl's Guide to Starting Middle School: Everything You Need to Know About Juggling More Homework, More Teachers, and More Friends (Book) - Part of the series of books known as the American Girl Library, this entry by Julie Williams helps prepare girls for the changes of middle school through tips from the real world.
