Pet of the Week: Pilgrim Needs a Loving Home

Pilgrim is available for adoption through Paws for Life Rescue in Troy.

Meet Pilgrim. He's a smart, happy and loving dog who is currently in a boarding kennel.

Pilgrim is an American Staffordshire Terrier Mix and weighs about 80 pounds.

Pilgrim rescued himself on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. "I saw some nice people trying to catch a stray dog. I was a stray, too, and didn't want to spend one more scary minute alone on the streets, looking for someone to help me. I saw my opportunity to get rescued, so I jumped into their car," Paws for Life Rescue wrote about Pilgrim's rescue experience.

After Pilgrim was rescued, he tested positive for heartworm, however Paws for Life Rescue was able to treat him and he is now cured. Pilgrim has received his vaccinations and is neutered.

Pilgrim is housetrained, but prefers a home without dogs, cats or small children. He also loves to play with toys and stuffed animals and take walks. Paws for Life Rescue says Pilgrim is usually obedient but sometimes gets excited and tries to escape his kennel suite.
