Snow Storm Dumps 8-10 Inches of Snow in Clawson, DPW Clearing All Streets

After the city declared a snow emergency and the area was hammered with 8-10 inches of snow, some residents and patrons still ventured out.

Mother nature has struck again. Sunday's snow storm brought up to 9 inches of snow to Clawson and surrounding areas. Late Sunday night, the city declared a snow emergency prohibiting motorists from parking on any unplowed roads.

Doug Ballard, assistant superintendent for the Department of Public Works, said snow plow trucks were out until about 10 p.m. Sunday night and resumed at 3 a.m. Monday. Ballard said they had to plow the main roads twice because of the heavy snow accumulations. Ballard said this morning that he hoped to have all subdivisions cleared by midday.

Clawson Police reported no snow-related accidents as of late Monday morning.

Dr. Darren Kalkan, of, said his office has seen a boost in patients this year with all of the snowfall. Kalkan said people are more likely to experience back or joint-related issues from shoveling snow during this time of year.

While snow plow trucks and residents were out trying to clear the deep snow off the roads, sidewalks and driveways on Monday, many still ventured out to work or downtown Clawson to have breakfast.

Jim Kelly, an employee at the said he rode his bike to work from Troy on Monday morning without much of a struggle. Kelly said he passed several cars stuck in the snow on his way in.

Monday's forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of more snow showers and and high of 23 degrees.
