With a table set up in front of the , a political action committee is sending one message to passers-by: Impeach Obama.
The outreach group is part of LarouchePac, which has a national campaign to impeach President Barack Obama. Two representatives were outside the post office Thursday with posters and literature about their initiative.
The organization cites impeachable offenses against Obama such as the start of illegal wars and extending the Patriot Act, which they say invades privacy. Essentially, the group believes the decisions made by the Obama administration could start World War III, said LarouchePac member Tarrajna Dorsey who was in Clawson on Thursday with Michigan congressional candidate Bill Roberts.
"We actually have to remove him to begin rebuilding our country in the true American spirit," Dorsey said.
LaRouchePac said the invasion of Libya and the assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi in October are key reasons for impeaching Obama. He invaded Libya "without congressional approval," said Don Phau, a spokesman for LaRouchePac. "Obama committed a crime."
Dorsey said the local members travel throughout Metro Detroit to spread their message and recruit more members. "We need to get people involved in joining the fight," Dorsey said.
The group isn't violating any rules because they are on public property and their activity is considered freedom of speech, Clawson Deputy City Clerk Mike Smith said.
The response from passers-by varies, Dorsey said. Some people will stop by to learn more about the group, while others honk their horns or yell out their car windows.
"We get people who love Obama and think we're insane," Dorsey said.
