Veterans Day: What's Open, Closed and Discounted?

The post office is closed, students still have school and several businesses offer deals for veterans.

On Friday we observe Veterans Day— a day dedicated to thanking the men and women who have served in the military. Congress established the national holiday on June 4, 1926. A special day like Friday means many establishments will be closed and some area restaurants are offering discounts to veterans.

  • City offices and are already closed on Friday.

Applebees (1275 W. 14 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights)— Veterans and active duty military eat free from a limited menu.

Outback Steakhouse (1515 W. 14 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights)— Veterans and active duty military get a complimentary Bloomin’ Onion and non-alcoholic beverage.

T.G.I. Friday’s (591 W. Big Beaver in Troy)— The restaurant will have a buy one, get one free special for veterans Nov. 11-14.

Hooters (2950 Rochester Rd. in Troy) All veterans and active military men eat free. There will be a special Veterans Day menu with the free entrees.

Home Depot (660 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights)— The store will offer a 10 percent discount to veterans.

Build-a-Bear Workshop (Somerset Mall)— Members of the armed services received a 20 percent discount on any one transaction Nov. 11-15.
