Viewfinder: Clawson Celebrates America's 235th Birthday with a Bang

Spectators camped out under the stars at City Park to end the Fourth of July with celebratory fireworks, despite a delay.

Clawson's fireworks show ran behind schedule Monday night, frustrating some, but wowing those who remained to enjoy the display.

Many homes surrounding began their own fireworks celebrations earlier Monday evening by lighting sparklers in the streets and on the sidewalks.

The main event was scheduled to begin at dusk, which fell shortly after 10 p.m. But, by 10:30 p.m., many people in the crowd – disappointed by the delay – left the fireworks before they began.

Despite the 10:37 p.m. start, the fireworks show certainly did not disappoint.

"I was a little thrown off, they usually start earlier, but they happen when they happen," said Andrew McIlwain, a Ferndale resident. "When else do you get to see fireworks?"

Kristina Bowles came all the way from Canton to enjoy the carnival and fireworks with her children, Amber and Brandon.  "The fireworks were great," said Bowles. "The kids really enjoyed them."
