Weekend Planner: 'Tis the Season for Holiday Fun

There are all kinds of fun events in store for those seeking Christmas merriment.

Did you attend the Monday? What a great way to kick off the holiday season!

There are more events in store in and around Clawson this weekend to keep the Christmas momentum going, so put on your jingle bells and join in the holiday cheer with this lineup:


While you're out enjoying holiday events and shopping, don't forget to reach a hand out to those in need. The will offer motorists that opportunity from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at major city intersections. Make a donation for the Goodfellows' newspaper and your money will go toward helping a family in need. The group says it sells ads for the newspapers that cover the cost of the paper. This ensures that 100 percent of the money raised goes back out to the community without any overhead. The Goodfellows to help dozens of local families in need during the holidays. The Goodfellows already have received more family nominations this year than it has had all of last year combined, Goodfellow Jim Horton said.

Ask for your Free Holiday Magic at Wunderground Magic, Inc. Continuing throughout the holiday season, Wunderground Magic will be giving away free magic tricks as a holiday gift to you for joining them at the shop. These make great stocking stuffers for your young magicians. Stop in early because supplies are limited. If you can't make it in to the shop and want to take advantage of this offer, order online, the shop says.

Have Breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 or Dec. 17 at the ’s Wildlife Interpretive Gallery. On three consecutive Saturdays starting this week, catch the jolly old man himself, and every good little girl and boy will receive a holiday gift. The family event will feature costumed characters, arts and crafts and holiday movies in the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery Theater. Photos with Santa will be available at an additional cost. The cost, which includes zoo admission and parking, is $30 for adults (ages 15 and older) and $25 for children (ages 14 and younger). The cost for Detroit Zoological Society members is $25 for adults and $20 for children. Tickets must be purchased for all children regardless of age as seating is limited. Advance reservations are necessary, call 248-541-5717 (press 3).

There are two holiday events going on at Ferndale's on Saturday. Register the kids to eat breakfast or lunch with Santa by Thursday at www.ferndalerecreation.org. The meals run from 9:30-11 a.m. and the cost is $8 per child, $4 per adult or $20 for a family of four or more (maximum two adults). Each child will receive a treat bag and photo with Santa. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and a beverage. Lunch includes a hot dog, chips and a beverage. Or, enjoy the Holiday Showplace from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to join in on more festive fun. The Showplace costs $1 for admission, and includes a slew of unique hand-crafted items for everyone on your guest list. Drop the kids off at a staff-supervised Fun Zone for free!
