Community Shows Its 'Love for Lulu' With Fundraisers Today

10-year-old Alexis Sarvello is recovering from brain tumor surgery and the community is raising money to help the family.

Today, the Clawson community will recognize 'Team Alexis'— a local initiative in support of student Alexis Sarvello, also known as Lulu, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor on May 2.

The 10-year-old is now in the Children's Hospital of Michigan recovering from multiple surgeries. It was an unexpected obstacle for the Sarvello family, so friends and community members are holding various fundraisers to help with medical costs and other financial needs.

Family friend Tracy Zeiter said Alexis' parents, Scott and Lisa Sarvello "are givers to the community... and now they need help."

The Sarvello family owns Scooter's Dairy-O on Main Street; Scott is a detective for the ; and Lisa works in the Trojans store during basketball season.

How You Can Help

  • T-Shirt Fundraiser— There will be a 'Team Alexis' fundraiser event at the beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Friends will be selling the official 'Team Alexis' T-shirts for $10 plus there will be a silent auction with items from the Motor City Gallery. Hideout will provide pizza and there will be a cash bar.
  • Lemonade stand— Community members are hosting a 'Team Alexis' lemonade and treats stand on Friday from noon-5 p.m. at 424 N. Manitou. All proceeds from the sales will go to the family.
  • Walk-a-thon— families will support 'Team Alexis' at a walk-a-thon Friday form 8:30 a.m.-9:15 a.m. at the school. Students and staff will walk two laps around the perimeter of the school yard before their field day. Proceeds from the walk-a-thon will go directly to the Sarvello family to help with medical costs, therapy and in-home needs for Alexis.

This effort is just one more example of how a community can mobilize and respond quickly when there's a need. Hats off to everyone who has pitched in to make this successful! I'm proud to be a resident of Clawson!

I completely agree with Chuck, there was a sea of blue 'Team Alexis' shirts at the Hideout last night, what a great way to come together to support this incredible little girl who is a part of an amazing family!

Yes I totally agree!! It was overwhelming to see the love and support in this community, however not surprising. I think this community is done watching it's children suffer!!! We have seen way too much of that!! We will see this little girl home just as perfect as she was before her surgery. Let's keep TEAM ALEXIS going!!!!! Thanks to everyone for all their help and support. Tracy
