Lemonade Day...It's a Sweet Thing

Clawson will celebrate Lemonade Day on Sunday; youth can set up lemonade stands in neighborhoods.

Here is one more reason the city of Clawson is known for being so family friendly.

Members of the City Council approved a proclamation to designate June 12 as Lemonade Day in Clawson. Lemonade Day is an initiative that encourages children to set up lemonade stands so they can learn and experience entrepreneurship. This will be the first year the city has officially celebrated Lemonade  Day. To register for a lemonade stand kit, visit detroit.lemonadeday.org.

The kits will be available for pick up at locations across metro Detroit. The closest location to Clawson is at 791 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy.

Lemonade Day began in Houston in 2007. In just four years, Lemonade Day has grown to include 28 cities with a goal of one million stands by 2013 in 100 cities.

The mission is to prepare youth for life through fun, proactive, and experiential programs infused with life skills, character, education and entrepreneurship.

I want to add another component to this...why not use this opportunity to teach your child the importance of donating to a cause? There are so many to choose from and with some explanation, your child can choose the cause themselves. The proceeds from his or her lemonade stand could be donated and your child can even be a part of a larger cause. Take him or her to the Salvation Army, the Pediatric Oncology Center at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and let them hand over their hard-earned money to the right person. This will promote a general feeling of goodness and accomplishment.
