Clawson Goodfellows Gear Up for Holiday Giving

The charitable organization is launching its efforts to ensure that there is "no child without a Christmas."

The season of giving has already arrived in Clawson.

The are collecting food and toy donations to help dozens of local families in need during the holidays. Goodfellow Jim Horton said the group plans to deliver food baskets to at least 25 families Monday for Thanksgiving.

The Goodfellows have been working with the Clawson Eagles to gather turkeys and nonperishable goods for the baskets. They are storing the items at the in the basement of . The food bank has held food drives every Monday since October for needy families.

Members of the community and the local schools help the Goodfellows with their efforts each year, Horton said. There are large boxes at and in which residents may drop off new, unwrapped toys for needy children.

So far, 65 families have been nominated to receive toy baskets from the Goodfellows for Christmas. Horton said he expects that number to increase through December.

"I expect we’ll hit over 100 this year," he said. "We try to keep in mind that the scope of what we do is 'no child without a Christmas.' "

Last year, the Goodfellows helped about 80 families.

How you can help

The Goodfellows will be at the major intersections in Clawson on Dec. 3 for their annual Paper Sale. Members will collect donations in exchange for a newspaper that includes information about the community and the Goodfellows.
