Zombies are taking to the streets in droves this October.
Zombie events are planned all over the Detroit Metro area. You can join the drooling, brain-eating masses, too. Here's how.
- Zombie Walk Detroit, Oct. 13, 4 p.m.: For the fifth year, creepy zombies will be walking around downtown Royal Oak raising food and funds for Gleaners Food Bank to help needy families in Metro Detroit. Royal Oak's event recognizes Oct. 13 as "World Zombie Day Against Hunger." Participating zombies are asked to bring five non-perishable or five bucks. - Utica Zombie Crawl, Oct. 13: The daylong event features a community blood drive at from 12-4 p.m.; form 4-7 p.m. Zombifying Booths Open, and a $5 donation gets you a zombie makeup application; at 5 p.m. the Take a Bite Out of Utica Zombie Crawl starts, with a $5 donation entitling participants to food and drink discounts at participating eateries in downtown Utica; 8:30pm: Zombie Wranglers will Escort Zombies to the Sinister Haunted House at the water treatment area, hosted by The Lions Club.
- Caribou Zombie Walk, 12-4 p.m. Oct. 20, 19419 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods; hosted by Caribou Coffee. Cost is a donation of your choice, $5-$10 recommended, and all donations benefit COTS emergency shelter in Detroit, as well as CancerCares. Free drink coupons will be given for awesome costumes, door prizes for the first 25 zombies registered with donation, and a grand prize for the largest donation.
- Cromaine's Zombie Walk for Gleaners, Sat. Oct. 13, noon: Come dressed as your favorite Zombie and bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Gleaners Community Food Bank. Meet on the south lawn of Cromaine Library Hartland, across the street from the Hartland Burying Ground. All ages are welcome. Register online at www.cromaine.org.
- Fenton Halloween Parade: Fenton's 2nd Annual Halloween Parade will start at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 27th, beginning and ending at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center. Participants must be in costume to be in parade, and are not limited to zombie costumes. (Parents who want to walk with small children must also be in costume.)
- Romeo Zombie Walk: The event is Oct. 6, starting at 6 a.m. for registration, and walking around 6:30 (ish). Zombies should bring 2-3 non-perishable food items to participate. Donations help homeless veterans.
- Mt. Clemens Zombie Walk, 7 p.m. Oct. 27: Master of Ceremonies Wolfman Mac will lead the procession, starting at the Anton Art Center, 125 Macomb Place. Registration is $5 for those 21 and over, $3.00 for those under 21. All ages are welcome, but those 15 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult. - New Baltimore Zombie Walk at 8 p.m. Oct. 27: The free, first-ever event is open to the public and starts in front of the city's recreation center and ends at Little Camille's By the Bay at 51083 Washington Street.
