Attic, Exterior Wall of Clawson Home Destroyed in Fire

The cause of the blaze Thursday afternoon is still undetermined, officials say.

officials are investigating the cause of a fire that left extensive damage to a two-story colonial home on the 300 block of South Batchewana on Thursday afternoon.

The family was not home at the time of the fire; a dog and cat were found uninjured inside the house.

Firefighter Jim Horton said crews responded to the fire at about 1:45 p.m. The fire had crawled up the exterior back wall of the home and the attic was engulfed in flames, he said.

Crews knocked out 90 percent of the fire within five minutes and spent the next hour putting out hot spots, Horton said.

"I am not shy to say this was an incredible save," the Clawson firefighter  said.

The attic and and exterior back wall are destroyed and there is widespread smoke damage to the house, Horton reported.

Clawson Patch will update this story as more details are available.

We live close by and my children were outside and said that they heard what sounded like an explosion. Glad the CFD responded fast. Thanks!

I also notice that other patch sites out side of this area still look good (old). Can we just goRead More back since I don't hear ANY good feedback.

Personally, I'm enjoying that I can blog and post announcements on here free of charge. When IRead More called months ago, the young man I spoke with told me I'd have to pay a small fortune to place a business ad.

I don't blog, so the fact that it is free is irrelevant to me, but great for those who do blog.Read More However, I have to agree with the majority. The new site is very unappealing visually and much less user-friendy. Are all the "Patch" news run by the same people? I would like our to have more individuality to it and be easier to use.
