Clawson Police Respond to 10-Plus Fireworks Complaints in a Week

Residents who discharge fireworks before July 3 and after July 5 are breaking state and local laws.

Since June 26, Clawson Police officers have responded to more than 10 resident complaints about fireworks, coming from all around the city. 

The map with this article shows the general locations of the calls; street addresses indicate the blocks from which complaints were made. Some of the pins represent more than one call.
 
Anyone shooting off fireworks before July 3 and after July 5 are breaking state and local laws. Consumer fireworks can only be used on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, along with the days before and after each holiday. 

A Clawson city ordinance prohibits the sale, possession, control, or discharge of consumer fireworks in town. This includes private property. A violation of ordinance is a misdemeanor with maximum jail time of 180 days and fines between $200-500.
