Police Blotter: Police Investigate Thefts from Vehicles

The following information was supplied by the Clawson Police Department.

Items stolen from car outside Renshaw Lounge

A Warren woman told police someone entered her silver Impala the night of April 3 and stole several items while it was parked outside in Clawson.

A police report says the woman arrived at the bar around 9:45 p.m. and when she returned to her car at 11 p.m. it appeared someone had reached through the partially opened window and unlocked the door of the car. Police say the car was parked in the east row of parking spots.

The victim reported items missing from the car including a Nina Ricci purse valued at $1,500; debit cards; a license to carry a weapon; a bottle of Burberry perfume; a camera valued at $200 and $100 in cash.

Larceny on Tecumseh

A Clawson man reported someone entered his unlocked car between 7 p.m. April 1 and 7 a.m. April 2 and stole a pair of Coach sunglasses and a GPS unit from the glove box. The vehicle was parked in his driveway on the 100 block of Tecumseh. The victim later realized his Kodak digital camera also was missing from the car. There were no witnesses.

Police continue to investigate both of these incidents as well as a theft from a vehicle parked on 14 Mile that occurred April 4. Details were not immediately available for that incident.

Crimes of opportunity

Clawson Police Chief Harry Anderson said most thefts from cars are "crimes of opportunity" and that residents should be watchful of suspicious activity in neighborhoods. He said in most of the reports of thefts from cars for Clawson, the doors had been left unlocked or there were valuables in plain view.
