Police: 3 Men Face Robbery Charges for Super 8 Incident

The victim suffered several injuries after being assaulted and robbed in his Clawson hotel room.

Three men have been charged with unarmed robbery for a Feb. 19 incident at the in Clawson.

According to a Clawson Police report, Devin Vanloo, Matthew Detrych and Stephen Garofalo allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old man in his hotel room. The victim reported Garofalo told him he was coming to the hotel to drop off some money he owed him. Instead, the victim said that when he went to open the hotel room door, someone kicked in the door and a group of men entered and began kicking and punching him.

The men took $500 out of the victim's wallet, another $300 from the room's safe, a cell phone and an ID, the report stated. The men then told the victim they were taking him to the bank to withdraw more money. When they attempted to drag him down the hallway, he escaped and ran to the hotel lobby where he locked himself in a back room with the hotel clerk, according to the police report.

The victim suffered bruises on his face, cuts on his hands and a bloody nose and mouth, the report said. Police say the victim did not receive hospital treatment.

Following an investigation, Garofalo, of Ann Arbor, was arrested and arraigned Feb. 21; Detrych, of Detroit, was arrested and arraigned Feb. 29 and Vanloo, of Southfield, was arrested and arraigned Feb. 28.

All three men were arraigned in 52-4 District Court in Troy and not guilty pleas were entered for each of them. Garofalo was released on a $10,000 personal bond with an examination set for April 2; Vanloo was released on a $15,000 personal bond with an April 16 examination, and Detrych was released on a $5,000 bond (10 percent cash surety) and has an April 16 examination set.

Unarmed robbery is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
