There is no need to be seriously concerned about discolored water as a result of a broken water main on Sunday afternoon, said Clawson Department of Public Works Superintendent Doug Ballard.
The water main, located on High Street in-between Hendrickson and Elmwood, was fixed on Monday afternoon following the rare summertime break. That should return the color of the water to normal, Ballard said, however, discolored water is safe to drink.
"It might look unpleasant, but it's just from the velocity change in the main. By no means is it harmful to drink. It's chlorinated," Ballard said.
It is far more common for mains to break in the winter, Ballard added, owing to colder temperatures shifting the ground in which pipes lay. However, it is not known what exactly caused Sunday's break.
