Maureen McGinnis Sworn In as Acting Mayor of Troy

Mayor Pro Tem McGinnis will serve as acting Mayor of Troy until Monday's Troy City Council meeting, when councilman Dane Slater will take over as Mayor Pro Tem and Acting Troy Mayor.

Mayor Pro Tem Maureen McGinnis held up her hand and swore to faithfully perform the duties of the office of Acting Mayor of Troy in a brief ceremony at Troy City hall Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, an audience of residents, city employees and media watched and applauded.

McGinnis replaces controversial former mayor Janice Daniels, who was recalled Tuesday. McGinnis will serve as acting Mayor of Troy until Monday evening's Troy City Council meeting, when Councilman Dane Slater, who is scheduled to take over as Mayor Pro Tem on Monday, is named acting Mayor of Troy.

Council then has until Dec. 11, 2012 to appoint a new mayor to serve until the Nov. 5, 2013 city election. If a sitting council member is appointed mayor by a majority vote, then council must appoint a replacement council member to serve until the November 2013 city election.

I agree, and have faith that council will continue to work together, as they have. They will do their jobs, as they were going to do all along, in spite of any fear mongering or arm chair quarterbacking on a community web page.

I'm thinking Henri would be a good choice for city council. http://youtu.be/CvQPzmoKuBk

With Council working together in the best interest for the common good, the Acting Mayor will be our Goodwill Ambassador fulfilling the duties as described in the City Charter. I have confidence in Maureen McGinnis' ability and character to serve as Acting Mayor. Maureen McGinnis took the Oath swearing to uphold the City Charter and will represent Troy with honor and dignity. There is no need to look any further or fret to find an 'unknown candidate.' Peace and sunshine continue to shine on the City of Troy since Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

I have complete faith in Maureen and the other council members. The Janice Daniels recall victory is a huge step in the right direction. Enough about her, lets focus on the future of Troy.
