CHS Class of 1992 Will Donate Reunion Proceeds to Marching Band

The 20-year reunion and fundraiser will be held in October.

The class of 1992 will come together for a great cause at its 20th reunion this year.

Class members are looking to raise more than $20,000 to donate to the school district for new marching band uniforms. The class will host its reunion from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Oct. 13 at in Clawson. The event will include food, music, cash bar, a silent auction and a Clawson alumni T-shirt sale.

Jennifer True, who serves on the reunion committee, said they are asking for a minimum $10 donation from each person who attends the reunion. The class will also collect donations from the community in the months leading up to the reunion, True said. The committee anticipates local businesses will donate items for the silent auction.

"We want to reach as many people as possible to make this as much of a success as possible," True said.

True said her classmates were adamant about helping the band since its uniforms are 22 years old. Band director Kevin Phillips said some of the band members' parents wore the current uniforms.

"To wear something like that, it's very, very tough," True said. "We're trying to better ourselves and better our community."

If the reunion committee raises $23,500, that will cover the cost of 90 new uniforms. Phillips said the school district has already ordered the uniforms and all donations will go back to the district to offset the costs.

"The school district could certainly use (the money)," he said.

Phillips said the new uniforms are a lot more durable. "They will keep you cool when it's warm and warm when it's cool," he said.
