Clawson School Board Welcomes New Kenwood Principal

Back-to-school talks include the long-awaited introduction of a new Kenwood Principal.

Lloyd Lewis, a former elementary principal from the Berkley and Farmington school districts, was selected to be the interim principal at beginning this school year. The Clawson School Board announced the new leadership appointment at a board meeting Monday evening.

Lewis, a Waterford resident, received high recommendations from both Berkley and Farmington. Clawson Schools Superintendent Cheryl Rogers said she was very impressed with Lewis’ ability to listen and build relationships.

“Thank you for your vote of confidence for selecting me to join the team at Kenwood,” Lewis said to the school board on Monday. “I welcome the challenge and applaud everyone who created that.”

Lewis is already familiar with the Clawson School District as he is the founder of CASA, the Center for Advanced Studies and the Arts. The program allows students from multiple districts to attend a magnet high school in Oak Park (which is part of the Ferndale School District) to give them access to higher learning opportunities that may not be available otherwise.

A Meet & Greet Session with Lewis is scheduled for Aug. 25, and parents will soon be receiving further information in the mail.

Tech Bond Implementation Update

The installation of 900 brand new desktop computers in the Clawson Schools District is 50 percent complete. Technology Director Marcus Isabell said he is confident the project will be finished by the beginning of the school year. The installation of new servers is 90 percent finished, he said. The technology staff is also refurbishing the computer labs with plans to install 35 new computers in each lab with one teacher workstation.

Superintendent's Report

Rogers said Aug. 30 will mark the first meeting for teachers, and classes will begin Sept. 6. A calendar is posted on the Clawson Schools website and an annual calendar will be mailed out to each individual home.

Rogers also acknowledged two seniors, Patricia Landreth and Taylor Fair, who have been selected by Student Leadership Services to serve on the state advisory board. The organization trains students in health-based initiatives, such as SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). Rogers called the selection a “tremendous opportunity."
