School Board Notes: Budget Amended, Board Appreciation and More

Highlights from the first school board meeting of 2012 held Monday.

The school board on Monday night passed an amended budget of $22,224,630 for expenses and $21,772,431 for revenues for the fiscal year ending in 2012. The board orginally adopted a budget last June of $21,674,235 for expenses and $21,537,802 for revenues.

Business Services Director Gary Jackson said the variances in the budget are caused by factors such as state legislation; teachers who earn master's degrees and receive salary increases; higher utility costs; and hiring more employees for school building needs.

Board Appreciation

January is School Board Appreciation Month and the board celebrated at its meeting with a strings performance by students. The Miss Clawson pageant winners also presented a check for $500 to the Clawson Educational Enrichment Fund at the meeting.
