Would You Consider an Online School For Your Child?

Keeping pace with a growing trend of online education options, Nexus Academy of Royal Oak is slated to open this fall offering a "blended" online and on-campus charter high school option.

It becomes the third Nexus Academy location in Michigan. Other full- or partially-online schools for Oakland County students include the Virtual Learning Academy Consortium, W-A-Y Oakland, and the Michigan Virtual Charter Academy.

One Patch reader commented about the Nexus Academy's new location: "I've never understood the sudden desire to teach students online. Always figured it was just a way to save money with no benefit to the student. I guess if it's just a way to free up time for them to do an internship, that makes sense.."

While another reader wrote in, "Online schooling is great for kids who have health issues that may prevent them from attending a standard classroom."
