Trio of Clawson Teams Fall In District Finals

Saturday losses bring Trojans baseball, softball and soccer teams' seasons to an end.

The Division 3 district finals weren’t kind to the Clawson spring sports teams on Saturday. The Trojans baseball, softball and soccer teams all lost in the finals.

Clawson baseball and softball played in the New Haven district and followed similar paths.

Both teams won semifinal games in the morning over Pontiac Academy of Excellence to advance to the finals. The Trojans baseball team beat them 15-1 and the softball team won 20-1.

But then Bishop Foley steamrolled both teams in the finals. The Ventures baseball team beat Clawson 15-1 and their softball team beat Clawson 10-0. It was the third straight district tile for Bishop Foley’s baseball team and fourth in a row for the softball team.

None of the games on Saturday in either the New Haven baseball or softball district were close. All six of the games were decided by 10 or more runs and three of the games were shutouts.

The soccer districts didn’t go much better for the Trojans.

Clawson beat Detroit Cesar Chavez 6-0 on Thursday to set up a finals match-up against Country Day. The district host beat Notre Dame Prep 3-0 before Clawson played.

Country Day then eliminated the Trojans 1-0 on Saturday for the fourth straight year. The Trojans senior girls have been sent packing by the Yellowjackets three times in the district finals.

One of Clawson’s big goals this season was to win that district title, but falling short doesn’t take away from the success this year’s team had.

The girls won the MAC Gold Division for the first time this year.

“First (title) since we joined the MAC,” coach Jared Kullman said. “We’ve finished in third place the last two years.”

For the large group of seniors on the team it was a huge accomplishment.

“It’s something that every team wants,” Kullman said. “You want to be noted as the best in your division, it’s something the girls are really happy about and proud about. I was really proud of them too.”
