Trojans Senior Jake Smith Leads Baseball Team to District Title

Smith pitched seven strong innings on the road against Madison Heights Lamphere in the 5-3 win on Monday.

Clawson High School baseball coach Ralph Haney said that the Trojans played "as well as they ever could have" to win the district title on Monday.

Trojans senior Jake Smith led the way, pitching a complete game in the come-from-behind win by a 5-3 score against Lamphere High in Madison Heights. Smith finished with five hits allowed and four strikeouts, aiding his cause at the plate with a 2-for-4 game.

Smith also improved his season record on the mound to 10-1.

"Our two goals this year was to win the MAC Silver, which we did, and face Lamphere in the districts," Haney said in a report on MI Prep Zone. "It was pretty much our mission all year. We played them and beat them."

Clawson beat Hazel Park 11-0 in the semifinals on Monday to reach the district championship game. Macomb Community College-bound senior Craig Bynum led the Trojans at the plate on Monday, finishing 7-for-7 in both games combined.

Clawson (20-8) moves on to Saturday's regionals at Andover, where they'll square off with Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep.
