Oakland County Parks and Recreation is celebrating the close of the waterpark season with the 8th annual Dog Swims at Waterford Oaks and Red Oaks water parks.
The first dog swim will be held from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Waterford Oaks Waterpark in Waterford.
The second swim will be from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights.
"When the waterparks close to humans after Labor Day, they re-open to dogs for just one day. It’s great to see families bring their dogs to the waterparks to enjoy an afternoon of water activities," Oakland County Recreation Program Supervisor Laurie Stasiak said in a press release.
Five different dog-only swim times will be offered based on the dog's weight. Each session will be 55 minutes long and limited to 75 dogs.
Hourly contests will be held for "Best Wet Look" and "Best Swimsuit."
All dog owners must show valid Michigan Dog License and proof of vaccinations at the time of the event. Pricing is $15 each.
Fido Fest - a canine celebration featuring vendors, games and activities - runs simultaneously at Red Oaks Dog Park on Sunday, Sept. 9 from noon to 4:55 p.m.
