Images: Clawson Gives and Gives Back

Clawson police raise money for scholarships while Guardian Angels Catholic Church hosts a costume party for volunteers.

Weekend events in Clawson are often about volunteering and charity, such as the Clawson Police Department Bowl-a-Thon on Saturday night and the volunteer appreciation dinner Friday.

More than 150 bowlers from the , Clawson School District and neighboring communities participated in the second annual bowl-a-thon Saturday at Thunderbird Lanes in Troy. The event was expected to raise more than $3,000 for the Clawson Police Liasion Scholarship Fund.

More than 40 Clawson businesses provided raffle gifts and donations for the event to benefit graduates pursuing an education in law enforcement.

At Guardian Angels Catholic Church on Friday night, it was about giving back to those who work and volunteer at the church at its annual volunteer appreciation dinner.

With the theme of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales, attendees dressed in a variety of costumes including Little Red Riding Hood, the Knave and Queen of Hearts, and the Butcher, the Baker and Candlestick Maker.

The evening featured a catered buffet, games, dancing and a best-costume contest, which went to Judie Younce of Clawson, who was dressed in a Queen of Hearts costume.
